A parcel in the mail usually produces a slight raise in heart rate as anticipation gets the better of oneself. Even more so when it's some serious coffee that's just come from the opposite side of the world. Bonanza Coffee Roasters from Berlin sent us a truly wicked Kenyan Tasting Set to give a try, containing three different wet milled Kenyan coffees.
Did we have a favourite? The first time around it was agreed the Kaboyo River Peaberry was tasting delicious, with notes such as rhubarb, raspberry jam and cherry it was easy to understand why. Coming back to the samples every couple of days led me to a new conclusion, the Gititu. This coffee comes from the Aguthi co-operative in the Nyeri region which is known for the intense and complex flavours it produces. This coffee was a perfect example of this stereotype. The last coffee, the Gichathaini, was still an exceptional Kenyan coffee and thoroughly enjoyable.
