One does not have to look far from the hustle and bustle of Wairau Valley to discover the delight of Silverfield’s awarding winning Coffee Lab. Since the beginning (2002) Coffee Lab has been amongst the epitome of roasting and desire for the freshest and most delectable cup.
Rob McGregor, the leading face behind this 100% independently owned New Zealand Company, has been amidst the coffee scene for over 19 years now with leading know how in everything from production to retail. This has allowed the McGregor family roasting company to deliver such a superb experience, from the atmosphere of their store to the last drop of coffee each customer enjoys.
Upon my visit I was lucky enough to be shown the roastery out back where they use a classic Probat to roast the palatable beans I was later able to buy and try. To say the least the coffee I tried was of an exceptional flavour. Processed naturally and sundried on raised beds, the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Konga Sedie expresses tasting notes of strawberries and berries that are punchy yet impeccable, complimented with a clean and silkky body.
It is not surprising that Coffee Lab has received the Supreme Coffee Roasters Award twice in the past. One visit displays not only their passion for roasting but their drive to develop and improve their roasting techniques. Along with this they host such events as the Almond Breeze Coffee Lab Throwdown which will be hosted on the 19th of February at 6pm, if you are interested in seeing what latte art talent Auckland has to offer!
If you are in the North Shore, it would be in your best interest to discover this hidden gem as it offers everything from great service to an exceptional cup and it won’t be long until I’m ordering my next pour over from the crew down at 15 Silverfield.
